• @jemostrom 💯% agree. Ideally there should be different writing tools for different occasions that could feed the same presentation outlet. Some universal standard like MicroPub would make this a breeze IMHO. Wordpress does have XML-RPC and there's tools like Ulysses and MarsPad that work with it (also works with MicroBlog too!)

  • @maique Ouchie... That's probably where I'm headed as well when that time comes. Maybe they could be imported as an RSS feed then deleted?

  • @maique you'll have to indulge me how you moved things over from a self-contained blog to a category within your already running other blog. I need to figure out my own Great Migration sometime soon and am doing the research now 🤞🏾

  • @manton I for one think the way Craft.do does links (giving the option to keep a simple blue text link or 3 styles of link cards or the embed itself) is perfect. Options are good IMO.

  • @pcora @Munish The other thing is Beeper is trying to force the issue for Apple to do exactly that; Every other messaging platform does have some form of cross platform messaging (even Apple does web-based Facetime for non-iDevices now!) and there's no reason for the insecure SMS fallback. If this winds up in court, I'm sure that will be part of the debate.

At the VERY minimum, Apple could provide a PWA for iMessage just as they do with Facetime, but they're stalling.

  • @rickcogley I manage VMs for work; now I just want my stuff to run properly without the foolishness. Your rant is very valid!

  • @help thanks, much appreciated!

  • @numericcitizen got a few posted in there, let me know what you think, especially if you have better ideas than me along the same lines! 👍🏾

  • @help @manton if you could be so kind as to check into the above.... 🙏🏾🙇🏾‍♂️

  • @maique this is the second trip to Istanbul I've taken on someone's blog in a month! Something's trying to get me over there, I'm convinced!

  • @numericcitizen Thanks for this-- I hope they listen. I want to use Craft in the same manner as you do for the web but with microformatted markup and the ability to make a header and footer. 🤞🏾

  • @jemostrom @rickcogley I'm honestly thinking I could be spending the $10 for my VM with Wordpress on micro.blog right now...

  • @manton honestly for that it just matters if you're viewing on the native Mastodon web client or not. I pretty much never see those as I'm using Ice Cubes on mobile and Elk/Panphy in the browser on my laptop.

But I do see what you're saying. It's a bit distracting. Just expect your first link to pop that big card on Mastodon everytime and prepare accordingly

  • @jamesvandyne

BTW I think your parser on your blog is picking up the alt-text for the picture I posted with my last comment above and making for a very strange out of context series of sentences there. 😬

  • @Miraz hey, it’s always good to push yourself outside your comfort zone sometimes to see if your tastes have changed or if there’s a diamond in the rough. I would never have found out about Haruki Murakami if I hadn’t first ignored my knee jerk dismissal of “bubblegum fiction”

  • @Miraz wow, that bad! This is the first "abandoned" as a book status I've ever seen!

  • @manton as someone working for a major IT/cloud/software conglomerate, I can tell you the sun never sets in companies as big as Meta; don't just think of the programmers working on it being located in the US or Europe...

  • @numericcitizen tangental: I'd like to connect a mouse and keyboard to an apple TV and get the iPadOS interface and be able to then have access to the smarthome apps that don't quite have an Apple TV app but do just fine with iPad and iPhone.

  • @manton or maybe ActivityPub in a very early state will also be launching next week too.

...I'm always t 🤞🏾 and thinking "why not both?"

  • @jlgatewood

    Nope!

Not sure if that’s something that @pfefferle can help; might be a general WordPress limitation…

  • @starrwulfe @jlgatewood @starrwulfe

    guess we’ll find out shortly…

  • @jlgatewood maybe threaded means “only the comment section in the blog post is threaded…?

  • @JohnPhilpin

Well, that's a letdown... But worse than that: There's no way to SHARE any of the content created in the Journal app (so far)! 🤯 I was hoping I could use this as a way of capturing what happens during the day then keep it in my blog here...

  • @moonmehta you’re likely right. I might need to investigate the ease of micro.blog’s ActivityPub service… I’m so used to IceCubes letting me do things the easy way but maybe the mobile client is good these days too? 🤔

(I also have a 1337 character limit elsewhere too. 😉)
